The Buffet R13 was introduced in late 1954 and early 1955. The
highest pre-R13 serial number I've seen is 48707, and the lowest R13
is 48829.

The keywork has a number of differences. In particular, the pre-R13s
have the bottom of the throat Ab key and the right side of the throat
A key (looking from the front) mounted on a single post. On the R13,
each key has separate posts at both ends. Also, the trill key guide
on the pre-R13 has flat, triangular plates. On the R13, the guide is
cylindrical with a slot cut down through it.

There has been confusion about the transition because Buffet's pre-R13
American catalogs designated the standard model (with no extra keys)
as Catalog Number R13, which is different from Model R13. Actually,
the Catalog Number for the pre-R13 full-Boehm instrument was R16-1/2.

will return more than you ever wanted to know about the subject.
