I wondered, with the prices of audio and video recording equipment
going down, whether teachers have contemplated giving each of their
students a USB stick and recording the lesson on a digital device,
transferring it to the USB stick at the end of each lesson? Since
early 2008 I have been recording every practise session, rehearsal and
performance on a H2 recording device and listening to them later on to
analyse and it has been most enlightening. Since June when I bought a
digital camcorder I have been able to analyse my practise and
performances as well, visually, and those that remember my flambouyant
and distracting movement from a decade ago would be quite surprised to
know that my movement has been dramatically reduced. In addition, I
have a physical record of all my playing going back nearly two years
and listening to recordings back over time is motivating as I have
evidence of the improvement of my playing, well, one would hope!

Any more ideas on the uses of technology in practise and performance?
