OK sounds like it is pretty much the same except maybe Musikmesse has a lot=
more things. Most main companies for pro clarinets (like Buffet, Selmer Pa=
ris, Leblanc/Conn-Selmer, Yamaha) and several smaller ones (like Ripamonti,=
Patricola)=A0have pretty much all their models and a lot of things to try.=
Same for other companies like Schreiber, Jupiter, Amati, etc. etc. Also so=
me more unusual ones like Eppelsheim, Josef, etc. and same for those and ma=
ny other saxophone companies and there are many. In addition there are=A0a =
lot of German=A0makers. Also the non-Japanese Asian (mainly Chinese and Tai=
wanese) makers.=0A=0AYou can really just try whatever you want and I assume=
it's the same in NAMM. At worst you get someone looking at you slightly wo=
rried that you drop the instrument, but usually not. Selmer had the instrum=
ents on a platform in Musikmesse too but no problem just to take what you w=
ant, except maybe the contrabass clarinets. But if you want, just ask. That=
's why they are there.=0A=0AThere are some photos from 2009 Musikmesse here=
on my website =0Ahttp://www.nitailevi.com/shonot/frankfurt_musikmesse_2009=
/frankfurt_musikmesse_2009.htm=0A=0AI posted a lot more photos mainly focus=
ing on clarinets from 2009 Musikmesse here=0Ahttp://test.woodwind.org/clari=

MM Show (was: Re: [kl] Any New Developments in Bass Clarinets?)=0A=0AThis s=
how is intended for manufactures to make deals with distributors=0Aand deal=
ers. While there are people trying instruments, the big=0Amanufactures (Buf=
fet, Conn/Selmer) generally have samples of what they=0Asell, not everythin=
g. However, Morrie Backun has been in the Conn/Selmer=0Abooth the last few =
years and he is always friendly.=0A=0AIn the Selmer France booth they alway=
seem to be deep in conversation=0Aand ignore the people walking around and=
looking at the instruments. For=0Athe last few years I have wanted to try =
their low C bass on display but=0Ait has been up on a platform and I am afr=
aid of knocking other=0Ainstruments down if I try to reach it without help.=
=0A=0ASome of the smaller manufactures like Patricola and Orsi-Weir (I am n=
ot=0Asure that company still exists) have been in small booths and welcome=
=0Apeople who want to talk and try things.=A0 I think that is about it when=
=0Ait comes to professional level clarinets.=0A=0AThen there are the Chines=
e importers who generally have samples of what=0Athey make that you can try=
.=0A=0AWhile I haven't been to ClarinetFest since 2003, the manufactures an=
d=0Aretailers that attend usually bring a lot of instruments to try and=0At=
here is a lot of selling going on which doesn't happen at NAMM.=0A=0AI woul=
d really like to go to Musikmesse, but I don't think it is going=0Ato be th=
is year.=0A=0AGary=0A+-----------------------------------------------------=
