Well, but it isn't a jazz piece and it wasn't written by a jazz composer.
That's partly what I'm curious about, because Combs also jazzes the piece up
in ways that go counter to the (sometimes explicit) notation, and some of
the note changes just sound like that was the underlying purpose. If I were
pointed to anything that said Gould (or Goodman with Gould's approval)
thought they should be freely re-interpreted in swing style, I guess I'd do
it, too. Which is why I'm interested to know if Combs had any source coming
directly or otherwise from Gould or Goodman for the changes he made.

A friend of mine who is a bass player told that me when he performed
this a few years ago, he made some changes in the bass part because it
wasn't idiomatic jazz bass writing.
