I used to use your footballers shield method too, with about the same =
longevity, before switching to Parafilm. I found that Parafilm folded =
several times and trimmed lasts a long time, too; I have had the same =
two guards in my 35mm film container (perforated lid) for over a year =
now. And, you don't need hot water, or much technique, to make a quick =
replacement from a strip of the film kept in your clarinet case.

I reckon I have enough left on my roll at home to last me to the next =
millennium:-)
