Judy...

Funny. One of my neighbors (football lover) just made the trip to Mecca, oh, I mean the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium (1
billion dollar facility) and said, "we never watched the field, you could see the game better by watching the giant
video screen over the field". This after....spending about $650 for tickets and parking and a hot dog....for two people.
My comment back....why didn't you stay home and watch the game on your 60 inch theatre TV???

The company might consider - following canned music could be a video
ballet. After all it's cheaper and you have close ups. . . their days
could be numbered if they don't see the value in a truly live
performance. You'd expect canned music with amatures; and some of
them opt for live piano and small ensemble. If the company is swamped
with complaints, if the info listed below is made public, and if
several public, private and "fraternal" organizations assist you in a
very public protest/complaint campaign - - things could change. You
might get help in unlikely places. I hesitate to mention this. . .but
. . unionized Catholic teachers were unjustly treated by a bishop in
Scranton, PA, who decided to no longer recognize the union and legally
could get away with it. They were a small group with no power. They
had far more constraints on any actions they could take than most
groups. No one really cared about their injustice, so they had to make
people care about their unjust situation. Their cause became very
public because they ask everyone for help - even people having nothing
to do with the "Church", education, or PA - and they got it. A few
years later, a young bishop in "visited" Rome and decided to "retire".
Don't give up!

Nope....no donations by musicians for musicians.... to fund a poorly
run company....a non-profit company that thought it
was a good idea to pay two board members $700,000 bucks last year...for
-0- results in fund raising. Or...who funded a
$400,000 fund raising party...netting..opps, $395,000. Or...a company
who can spend $5,000 per Sugar Plum Fairy tutu for
the "new" production. Or....a non-profit company who can "loan" the
artistic director $50,000 for a new home. A 6.5
million dollar budget per year dance company, well funded behind the
scenes....

The thought of local musicians "helping" raise money for a company run
like this....is unpleasant. The dancers think the
musicians should be playing for free. LOL Of course...they would get
paid....'cause they are.... the stars. We feel for
them as well. 37 weeks of work....dancers for this company average
about $10,000 in salary. This, of course, doesn't
reflect that only a few make more than that....and a lot of the troop
make far less.

Oh well...the board seems to know how to spend the money on nice
parties....and social events...and.....

The moved to canned music began a long time ago -- about 20 years ago
or
more (from personal experience). It would seem that there must be a
person
in the area capable of grant writing and a philanthropic organization
awarding a grant to fund the music. If every musician who plays in a
bar or
every small venue were to chip in a dollar per gig, I'd bet an
orchestra could
be funded. For shame!

Well if you ask me, it sounds like that's the beginning of the end for
the ballet around here. If they can't even manage to hire a live
orchestra for the one ballet everyone takes their kids to see (ballet
fans or not), their days are numbered.

There's a reason people usually give Tchaikovsky the credit for
writing The Nutcracker, you know, and it ain't the choreography....

Great
turnout. Most folks, who bought very expensive tickets....were really
ticked.
