Lee Ann.....

By the way. LOL
The Phrase "Canned Music" was coined by none other than John Phillip Sousa, in response to the invention of the
Victrola.
The prediction was that courting couples would go to a lakeside picnic with a Victrola. Sousa grumped that "Canned
music" wasn't any more appealing than "Canned salmon"
A hundred year old argument.

The moved to canned music began a long time ago -- about 20 years ago or
more (from personal experience). It would seem that there must be a person
in the area capable of grant writing and a philanthropic organization
awarding a grant to fund the music. If every musician who plays in a bar or
every small venue were to chip in a dollar per gig, I'd bet an orchestra could
be funded. For shame!

Well if you ask me, it sounds like that's the beginning of the end for
the ballet around here. If they can't even manage to hire a live
orchestra for the one ballet everyone takes their kids to see (ballet
fans or not), their days are numbered.

There's a reason people usually give Tchaikovsky the credit for
writing The Nutcracker, you know, and it ain't the choreography....
