I've used a Blayman H - for at least 20 years on a Buffet R13. Blayman
mouthpieces are not cheap but I've played them on different student horns,
and know they play well on pretty much everything I've put mine on. You can
do a Google search for Blayman Mouthpieces and come up with the web site.
Herb Blayman designed them -- I believe he was principal clarinetist with
the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra for many years then retired to Baylen
(sp?), NM, and produced not only mouthpieces, but also instrument pegs. The
mouthpieces aren't carried by the large music stores as much as the pegs are.
For the investment, it's worthwhile if you intend to play for a while
(make sure you keep the mouthpiece when you change horns). In addition, the H
mouthpiece can be used with a wide range of different strength reeds which
tends to not limit the mouthpiece's use. It's a really good piece of
equipment. I have a backup Blayman, too, and if anything happened to either of
them, I'd have a long face for quite a while.

Hello. I have recently had trouble with my mouthpiece and reed setup, so
my clarinet tutor had me try some of his old ones(after he washed them). Of
those that he had me try, my favorites were the Ridenour(I don't know which
type) and the Vandoran B45. Unfortunately, now I am rather disappointed
with my own mouthpiece and hope to get a new one sometime soon. I have been
doing some research, and so far the ones that seem the best to
me(disregarding price) are the Behn, the Ridenours, and the Vandorans. I would prefer a
mouthpiece that is rather closed, because I like to play higher level
reeds. Please, I would like any information available on mouthpieces.
