Witmark was purchased by Warner Bros. in 1929, so it would have been
owned by Warner Bros. at the time Bernstein first published the
Sonata. Presumably at some point they started publishing it under the
Warner Bros. name. Warner Bros. sold its music publishing division to
Alfred Publishing in 2005, but apparently some (if not all) of its
classical titles it must have sold off to Boosey & Hawkes, because not
only do Boosey & Hawkes publish this piece now, but they also now
publish Gershwin's Three Preludes for Piano, which was also a Warner
Bros. publication when I purchased my copy some years ago.
