And I add that the reason why it is more difficult to create a hole in the
clarinet to that produces a note that is in tune in bother registers has
something to do with the fact that the clarinet overblows a 12th.

For an oboe, putting a hole in the instrument that produces a well-pitched
note in both registers was much easier.

So I conclude that it must have been because a clarinet overblows a 12th
while an oboe overblows an octave.

Beyond that it's a mystery to me.
