Are you using the US publication by Alfred of these etudes? The
numbers appear in a few of the etudes, and make a fresh start of
numbering on each page where they appear. I wonder whether an earlier
French edition included annotations by JeanJean that appeared on pages
that the US edition omitted?

There's a similar set of Sixteen Etudes by JeanJean edited by Jean &
David Hite for a Southern Music Company edition in 2003. That includes
several pages at the end of notes on each etude, which frequently
refer to remarks by JeanJean from the First Edition.

Is there a currently available French edition of the 18 Etudes that
includes JeanJean's comments?
The southernmusic.com catalog lists as "in prep" a JeanJean/Hite
publication of "Eighteen Etudes of Perfection". I wonder if this
includes JeanJean's comments that apply to those numbered passages?
And I wonder if this edition will see print, several years after David
Hite's passing?
