We will probably have some change....but from what was said about the sound
in the hall, not much. Everyone loved the way the orchestra sounded out in
the hall. I won't be missing having trumpet/trombone and percussion right
behind me. :-)

The guy who does the recording for the opera is in heaven. He thinks things
are going to be terrific. He has already refused to use existing high tech
resource in the "glass box" in the back/center of the hall. He will set up
in the pit as always. He has a perfect location w/T1 internet feed through
house, power etc. I'll keep you posted on his commentary. So far...he loves
what he's hearing. Each performance is recorded for the archive and per
contract is allowed one radio performance the following year on the local
classical channel. This coming year....we live feed it to the station via
internet. The station deals with compression/technical issues after they
receive the feed.

We are sitting forward in the pit for this production. The conductor wanted
the entire orchestra (large for this deal) out from under the stage lip. We
do have a lot more pit to work with if needed....and not much of what's left
is covered. A good thing in my opinion.

That was one of the first things I noticed in your pictures. Means you
won't be able to hide as much, but more to the point, I would venture to
guess that the orchestra will sound a lot better out in the house. Those
pit covers look pretty but sound horrible.

Has the orchestra experimented with positioning inside the pit? i.e.
woodwind positioning, string positioning and such? I know with the opera
that I've recorded, the positions of the players makes a pretty huge
difference in the final sound- both on tape and in the house. How many
players can you fit in there?
