ZEMLINSKY'S too-seldom-performed clarinet trio pays musical homage to
Johannes Brahms, who encouraged the young composer and introduced him to
the publisher, Simrock. The Austrian Jewish emigre was Schoenberg's
only teacher, Gustav Mahler's friend, Bruckner's student, and the
much-wooed Alma Schindler Mahler's first love.
