Quintet of the Americas in Concert at York College CUNY in Jamaica,
Queens on October 2

New York, NY – The Quintet of the Americas will give a concert of music
of the Americas on Friday, October 2 at 8:00 PM at the Performing Arts
Center of the Little Theater, on the campus of York College CUNY, 94-20
Guy R. Brewer Blvd. in Jamaica, New York.

Concert repertoire will include The Soul, a special work by
Native-American composer Louis Ballard, whose compositions combine
Native-American melodic and rhythmic material (and occasionally
Native-American instruments) with mainstream western compositional
techniques. Other works on the program include Leonard Bernstein's
Overture to Candide, Summer Music by Samuel Barber; Summertime by George
Gershwin; music by African-American and Cuban-American composers James
P. Johnson, William Grant Still, Carl MaultsBy and Paquito D'Rivera,
covering early jazz to gospel and salsa styles. Forest Hills composer
Gaudencio Thiago de Mello will be represented with a lovely lullaby
about sleeping in a hammock! In recognition of the Quintet's origins in
South America, the concert will include music from Colombia, Cuba, Peru
and Brazil.

The October 2 concert is free and open to the public, however there is a
suggested donation of $10.00. For more event information, call
