Here in central Maryland, I store all of my instruments (strings, wind, bra=
ss and =0D
percussion) in a humidified (60%) room, too. It doesn't really matter wher=
e you =0D
live.....your instruments are in and out of all sorts of climate conditions=
. They =0D
will fare better if they are stored in constant humidity. And where ever w=
ater =0D
travels down the wood during playing, you can bet the wood is less stable i=
n those =0D
areas. A thin coat of oil will help to keep those areas sealed against the=
=0D
moisture. I never used to believe this stuff, but actually trying it has c=
hanged =0D
my mind. My clarinets get a very thin coat of oil before every performance=
. My =0D
wooden mouthpieces get oil every week, and my barrels and bells get oil eve=
ry other =0D
month. And I am lovin' the way they sound...all the time!=0D
