Ed,
I played with a folk band which had an accordion (automatically at
least 443Hz!). So I asked a very good repairman to take a spare
Buffet barrel and cut it down to 61mm. It worked. Of course, when you
start monkeying around with that kind of length, your tuning on
certain notes (especially the long fingerings like D on the 4th line)
will be screwy, but on the whole, it was "close enough for Jazz".
