FWIW,

My wife is a physician and recommends beta blockers for this very thing. She does not specialize in treating musicians but recommends them for performance nerves if there are no indications the patient should not use beta blockers. She has a script herself - she uses it when she must do any major public speaking. She's apparently not at all afraid of cutting somebody open in an OR, but put her in front of an audience and she is more than a little nervous.

Let's skip the generalized advice and do what 75% of professional
musicians do -- go to a doctor who treats musicians, explain your
problem and get a prescription for a beta blocker.

I got flamed when I said this on the Clarinet board

but I still think I'm right.

I've been on a modern beta blocker for heart palpitations for several
years, and the effect on eliminating performance nerves has been
magical.
