One tip I read once was to practice and learn it better than you need to
perform it (e.g., faster, lighter, brighter, softer, louder, etc.). When
performance jitters act up, you can handle the pressure and still perform
well.

Subject: [kl] Preparing for auditions

I would like to know what some of you do to mentally prepare for
auditions. I know-practice, practice, practice, and..practice some
more! But I can practice the music to the point of memorization, and
just get nervous at the last second.

I once had a wonderful friend who was a concertmaster tell me to just
enjoy the music. I do while I am practicing and can go into an audition
and not play my best.

Deborah
