Subj: [kl] Basset horn trios of Mozart
Date: Thu, 10 Sep 2009 15:13:29 -0400

In addition to the five traditionally accepted basset horn trios attributed
to Mozart, I think there are two more, both published by Musica Rara. One
of them is a collection of arias from Marriage of Figaro and includes the
almost never heard aria "Al desio" which, in the opera, is a substitute of
Deh Viene, but which contains a pair of basset horns and with outstanding
text, particularly for the second basset horn. You can hear the original on
YouTube. The basset horns do not show up until after the recitative.

The second basset horn trio that (I think) contains some music from Don
Giovanni. But it has been years since I played it and I could have mixed it
up with something else.

The provenance of these two addition trios is very uncertain, though the
arrangements are pleasant.
