Well, that may very well create a better edition than say something 100
years old, but new editions can also be badly done. My experience with
Southern Music is that the editing is careless.

However, I have not looked at a new Southern edition for some time so maybe
you are right with more recent editions. But if you have time, take a look
at the Cassation Quartet (oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn) allegedly by
Mozart and which they got from a private wind instrument music library of
the Albert J. Andraud music library ca. 1935.

I would suggest that unless one if familiar with the original manuscript of
a work, it is not really possible to tell if the edition is good or not, at
least from an Urtext standpoint.
