Re klezmer music for clarinet, violin, and piano: Srul Irving Glick's
Klezmer's Wedding is really good; about 9-10 mins, and quite virtuosic.
Available from the Canadian Music Centre.

Hope this helps.

Unless it has been replaced, the modern band version was done by
Richard
Franko Goldman. Either the work is a poor composition or else the
Goldman
arrangement makes it sound like cold glue mixed with sludge.

Try Schirmer (or whoever inherited it). They used to carry a big
Mendelssohn section in their rental catalog.

I have played a band arrangement several times of the past few years
and
have enjoyed it. I also have the newish Baerenreiter edition of the
original here. I will take a look at this afternoon and post some
details.

If you are speaking of Ruy Blas Overture, Mendelssohn, a recording is
available in the CD set "Gems of the Concert Band", disk 5, "Legendary
Overtures" recorded by the Detroit Concert Band.

The Detrait Concert Band's recordings, publications, and reprint
editions of old band music are handled through Bovaco, based in
Arizona.

I found they finally have a web page with contact information, but not
yet an lonine listing of the items in their catalog:

http://bovacomusic.com/

Last year I found that the phone number given on their most recent
printed catalog (from the 1990s) doesn't work because of a change in
the area codes in Arizona.

Dear List,

I'm looking for chamber music that incorporates some Klezmer style
for clarinet piano, and either violin, 'cello, or both (trios or
quartets, in other words).

Ideally, these would be short, and upbeat.

I know of Paul Schoenfield's Trio for Violin Clarinet and Piano, and
I came across something called "Klezmer Wedding" for the same combo,
but don't know if it's good or not. Heard of it?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Hello Sean,

We have this piece but I don't know how good it is (no one has returned
it):

C986: Klezmer Music for Clarinet, Viola and Piano by Elissa Brill.
Arsis
Press, 1994, (includes piano score and parts). Klezmer Music is not a
traditional Klezmer piece, but was inspired by and owes much of its
structure to this Yiddish folk form. In one movement with alternating
slow and fast sections and includes a cadenza played independently and
simultaneously by all players. An advanced work with a duration of
about
9 minutes. $11.95 +S&H

Simeon Bellison did arrangements of several Klezmer pieces. I've done
all
of them. They are wonderful. I don't know if they are still available.
They
date from around 1940.

Contact Tom Pulwalski, a member of this list and an outstanding
Klezmer player. I am sure he could help you.
