There is a recording (I have it on vinyl) of Dieter Klocker playing the
Nocturne (Overture) in C, which I have conducted in Concert Band format.
The instrumentation of this is different from the Overture, which
Michael mentions. I always thought this was the same piece.
However there was no basset part in the set of parts we used. It would
be interesting to know more about this as I would love another excuse to
pull out the basset - being in the midst of series of recitals including
both of the Mendelssohn Concertpieces on Basset - will never perform
these on two clarinets again!!
