Subj: [kl] Mendelssohn Overture in C for Winds
Date: Tue, 11 Aug 2009 13:12:03 -0400

Hello all - sporry for the cross posting here and on the BBoards, but
not everyone sees both.

Has anyone here (Tony, Peter C, others) played the Mendelssohn
Overture in its original version, which calls for 2 clarinets in F, 2
in C and 2 basset horns in F?

Does anyone know of a recording using the original forces? I can't
find one in the usual obvious places (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc.)

I want my U of Richmond students to play this in the "modern" band
version, but want to get a sense of the original scoring and sound to
guide our rehearsals.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

David
