My predecessor, Jane Ellsworth, did her DMA document on the clarinet in
early America, 1758-1820. She has written extensively on this topic.
Currently she is an Assistant Professor of Music at Eastern Washington
University, where she teaches music history. I am sure if you contact her or
look for some of her articles in Early Music America it would be a way to
get further information on this topic.
Here is a link to her document through Ohio Link.

Subject: [kl] civil war clarinet references
Hello:
I am doing a bit of research and I'm afraid I'm not turning up a lot via
google. I am looking for history and references about the clarinet during
the 1840-1880 era, but with a specific focus on the civil war. I would be
thankful if you could help point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Mary
