Subj: [kl] Setaccioli Sonata in E-flat Op 31
Date: Wed, 22 Jul 2009 13:23:02 -0400

I have just received a copy of this piece after waiting for about 14
months. While this copy is spoken for, the distributor has one more I
could order.

Norman Heim wrote about this piece as follows:
Setaccioli, Giacomo (1868-1925) Italian composer born in Corneto,
Turquinia and died in Siena. He studied in Rome and later was director
of the Conservatoiro Cherubini in Florence. Composer of operas,
symphonic and chamber music, songs and piano pieces. He also authored books.
A. Sonata in E-flat Major, Op. 31 for B-flat Clarinet and Piano.
1. Ricordi, Milan, 1921.
2. Dedicated to Aureho Magnani.
3. Three movements: Merriggio (3/4), Notturno (6/8) and Alba (2/2).
4. In the style of late romantic tradition with an Italian approach.
5. Music is well-conceived, nicely proportioned with good form, and
parts are well written for the instruments.
6. Melodic material is very beautiful in the slower parts and typically
virtuosic in the fast passages.
7. This sonata is relatively unknown to clarinetists but is worthy to be
played by advanced college students; a good choice for professional
recitals as well.

It is also possible to download this piece from the library at Eastman.
But if anyone is interested in the "official" Recordi print on demand
edition (nicely done). Let me know and I will order it for them. It is
$68.00 plus shipping and handling. It is quite long with the piano part
41 pages and the clarinet part 14.
