***Begin Rant**

I really don't get the whole warm-up thing before shows, performances,
etc...

What's to practice? If you don't know your part perfectly by showtime you
shouldn't have been hired in the first place.

Wet the reed, play a quiet chromatic scale to make sure all your keys on
your horn are working correctly and then PUT THE HORN DOWN.

There is nothing worse and more annoying than having someone replay every
(difficult) passage in the book, or playing endless scales and arpeggios or
just noodle around playing everything from old orchestral excerpts to
demonstrating their most recent favorite technical exercise.

Think of the audience and your fellow musicians for a change.

There is nothing wrong with just sitting there quietly until the performance
begins.

***End of Rant***
