It think there is some overreaction going on here. Frankly I prefer not
to have to listen to 20 minutes of the trumpets practicing their parts
and the college age flute player practicing the Carnival of Venice on
the piccolo. As long as you have 2-3 minutes to tune before the show
starts you should be ok.

Set up and warm up before the house opens. Take a break. Come back 10
minutes before the show starts and blow some air through the instruments
or play softly below the recorded music (mics off) on those instruments
where it is easy to play softly like the clarinet or the low register on
the flute. As long as you have a bit of time to tune you should be ok.

The last show I played in, I didn't touch my saxophone for the first 30
minutes. All I could do before the show was to make sure it worked.
