Subj: [kl] Forestone reeds

I just received my order of three Forestone reeds and have to agree with
Bill Foss that they are wonderful. Better than the Legere's that I have
been using -- more responsive, meaning easier to make them do what I
want them to do. Now to see how long they will last. I'm hoping that
they will do as well as my Legere's in that respect, which have been
going for five or six years of not hard playing.

There was a peculiarity in the hardness designations which I would like
to know if anyone else has encountered. I have a C-3, CL3 and CL+3. I
presume that C-3 is supposed to be the softest and CL+3 the hardest (the
Forestone website uses a different numbering system). But when I play
on these reeds, the CL3 is softer than the C-3. And no, I did not mix
up the reeds after I removed them from their boxes: the C-3's have three
ridges molded into one edge, CL3's have two ridges and CL+3's have no
ridges.
