Quintet of the Americas in Concert at Queens Botanical Garden on April
26 – Presented in Cooperation with Latin American Cultural Center of Queens

New York, NY – The Quintet of the Americas will give a special concert
of music about Spring and nature on Sunday, April 26 at 4:00 PM at the
Queens Botanical Garden, 43-50 Main Street in Flushing, New York. The
event is presented in cooperation with the Latin American Cultural
Center of Queens as part of Gardening Day 2009.

The program will feature Garden at Night, by Nicholas Scarim, with guest
narrator Ellen Cava-Haag, director of music at the United Nations
International School, Queens campus. Other works will include a new
piece with a nature theme commissioned for the event from young composer
Mark Dancigers, Beth Anderson’s August Swale, Samuel Barber's Summer
Music, Duke Ellington’s Azalea, Gershwin's Summertime from Porgy and
Bess and dances from Colombia, Brazil and other South American
countries, many performed on instruments made of natural objects.

The Scarim work, for woodwind quintet and narrator, tells a story in
verse about a child who sneaks outside in the middle of the night and
finds that quite a few flowers and plants (like tiger-lilies and
snapdragons) have come to life in the moonlight. More about the composer
and the composition at http://www.quintet.org/news-scarim.html.

The April 26 concert is free and open to the public. For more event
information, call Queens Botanical Garden at 718-886-3800 or visit them
