Karl Krelove writes:
>>Why is it sometimes the case that an old Breitkopf part will have measure numbers, usually at the beginning of each staff, but the Kalmus reprint will not? I can't remember a specific instance, but I know it's happened sometimes in orchestras in which I've played that the strings
may have Breitkopf parts while the winds have Kalmus parts, or _vice versa_, ---
-----
Newer Breitkopf or other editions are been published with measure numbers while the older Breitkopf or other editions which Kalmus reprints, as they are PD, had only Rehearsal Numbers or Letters. Whenever an orchestra mixes editions it will save rehearsal time if the librarian coordinates the rehearsal system before the first rehearsal. More often you will find a conductor using a new edition score from a publisher that has measure numbers included, while none of the parts have this rehearsal system.
If an orchestra discovers they are using a mixed set where Kalmus winds and Kalmus strings do not match rehearsal systems, the librarian should report that fact to the company, so it may be corrected in future printings. E-mail: EFKALMUS@-----.com
