Subj: [kl] Fanfare for Gordon Brown in Brazil
Date: Sun, 29 Mar 2009 00:23:39 -0400

I caught the arrival of Gordon Brown in Brazil on BBC World News a
couple of days ago and was amused to hear the fanfare welcoming his
arrival to be massacred. Part of it is now on YouTube at

This clip misses the first few measures which were even worse if my
memory serves me, but you get the general idea.

For those of you who have been in military bands, how are the
musicians chosen when they are needed for particular events involving
the arrival of world leaders? Does an official enter a military
dormitory and say "I need you, you and you at the airport in an
hour," which would certainly explain how errors in judgment could be made?
