I was asking about the second piece. There are 2s against 3s all over =
the Fantasiestucke, none of them especially noteworthy. Schumann uses =
arpeggiated triplets as accompaniment throughout the 3 pieces, whether =
or not the melody is duple. In the two measures you cite (if I have the =
right ones) there's even the added complexity of ascending duple =
arpeggios against descending ones between the clarinet and the piano rh, =
all against ascending triplets in the lh. But the context and aural =
result are completely different in the first section of the Lebhaft =
(piece - movement - 2), mostly because of the sequential (not =
concurrent) juxtaposition of triplets in the piano and duplets in the =
clarinet in what are otherwise completely imitative passages.

Maybe it's somehow meant to be an image of Robert and Clara gamboling =
somewhere and one of them limps?
