Subj: [kl] UPDATE: Mouthpiece-Inspired Madness (and describing sound)

A big thank you to everyone who offered their advice and suggestions =20
on mouthpieces. I've narrowed down my candidates to the Fobes CF, =20
Walter Grabner and Gregory Smith models as they seem to come =20
universally recommended and I really need to limit my choices or I'll =20
never even make the attempt. I'll be emailing them next to get their =20
recommendations on models I should try.

I'd like to try to describe the kind of sound I hope to work towards =20
when emailing them, but I can't say I'm really confident that I =20
understand what is meant by "dark", "bright", "ping", etc. I tried =20
to find some sound clips of clarinetists who display these qualities =20
on the web, but didn't have any luck. Does such a thing exist? It =20
would certainly help if I could describe that warm round easy sound =20
that I especially like as being "bright" with "ping" and have it =20
translate back as "yes! that sound like sweet little bubbles =20
popping!". I know I'm treading on dangerous, subjective, ground here, =20
but are there any universally accepted examples of tone?

Thanks again!

Bechi
