Dear Monna,

are you just starting to play the clarinet? My only advice, learn to crow
first.

Getting moisture in the clarinet after is playing is a natural thing. That
means you are really practicing. In this case of you can stop and swab out
your clarinet. There is nothing wrong doing that.

Drinking coffee will not hurt your practicing. Its like drinking water. No
harm done.

Good luck,
Josh

Subject: [kl] Toddler Questions :)

Good morning everyone!

I feel like the toddler that always ask Mommy Why? :) I have a Grandson like
that! He is almost three now :)

1. Why is ther always a drop of moisture in the top of my lower joint no
matter how well I swab my clarinet? I always know that when I think I am
finished getting the moisture I can check there and almost always find it
there. :)

2. Will drinking coffee (black only) right before playing hurt my clarinet?
I always have my first cup as I am putting my clarinet together for practice
in the mornings. Once in awhile I take a sip half way through practice too.
:)

3. Why is it that one of my reeds I just worked on still plays after it was
chipped on the edge and I tried to file it smooth but it seems to be very
much not quite the curve it should be and it does not quite cover the
mouthpiece, still play pretty well? I almost threw it away instead of trying
it out first. (its not the best one but will do in a pinch)

4. Why was there no instructions with my reed cutter at all? I had to play
with it a lot just to figure the thing out, still not sure if I got it
right, but the reeds I trimmed this morning are working. It was an expensive
one. Maybe its like children and they don't come with instructions and you
have to ask an adult (a.k.a., a professional ) in this case. :)

5. Why is my bell ring loose on the bottom of my clarinet? OH yeah I know
this one :) the wood is shrinking! :) Ok Does this mean my whole clarinet is
in danger? I bought it new at Christmas time.

6. What causes some of my reeds to sound like snow/static on a tv that is
not recieveing signal? What do I need to do to correct this? I am still
learning how to adjust my reeds, just started really, waiting on a book by
Guy it will be a couple weeks yet.

Ok, I will quit now with all the questions, they are very real though I
really want to know if anyone wants to answer and give me any advice. I
always read every post everyone puts out, some of it is a little over my
head though, maybe I am getting senile? I know I am getting old my bones
told me so. Not sure, I think its the blood pressure meds the Doctor gave me
:) I like to blame everything on my Meds! :) Sounds good to me! Thanks
everyone and I will be waiting if anyone would like to help me out.

Monna~~still practicing everyday and loving it no matter how bad it might
sound. :)
