A correction - I meant to say "My thoughts and questions aren't meant to
include the already much-discussed perceived differences in sounds of
"schools" of clarinet...American, French, German, etc." (I remember Dan
Leeson's study on that subject and think this is a different topic)

Unless "old school sound" is meant to imply something about nationality of
sound by the person who made the initial comment.

I hope this isn't a big can of worms.
