1st International Basset Horn Festival Kandern
21 - 24 May 2009
D-79400 Kandern, Germany
Clarinetists and especially basset horn players are cordially invited to attend the 1st International Basset Horn Festival Kandern from May 21st through 24th, 2009 in the beautiful small town of Kandern, Germany situated at the edge of the Black Forest, near the Rhine Valley. The nearest larger cities are Basle, Switzerland (ca 25 km), Mulhouse, France (ca. 40 km) and Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany (ca. 55 km). There will be rehearsals, concerts including participants, workshops and an excursion to the instrument museum of Basle.
It all started with the unexpected finding of two valuable historic basset horns (Uhlmann/Vienna) in a cardboard box at the attic of the local museum. These are now being restored and will be presented in each concert of the festival. From classic to modern will be presented and participants are welcome. Since the Basset Horn Meeting in Arnsberg was canceled this year, and since we have this joyous occasion here in Kandern, Dr. Peter Geisler and I have decided to organize the basset horn festival this year in the home town of the newly found basset horns. Visitors are coming from Germany, France, Holland, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, England and maybe USA and Japan. Registration is easy - just send an email. No charge, just pay your own transport and rooming. Not all concerts are completely planned so we are still looking at possibilities for basset horn performances.All proceeds go to help pay for the restoration of the basset horns. Kandern will never be the same again!

You can download parts for the clarinet choir (performance on May 24).
Hope to see some of you here. Book early - rooms are scarce in Kandern and if you have to stay in a neighboring village, the public transport is very thin.
