Understood - that you have never had a problem & never heard of a clarinet
crackling for this reason. However, if someone didn't use the teflon as
carefully as the many who espouse its use here, it is possible that a tenon
would be UNsupported - not supported properly. In a perfect world, nothing
ever goes wrong. I understand what everybody is shooting for, but some
unlucky person could get stung here.

For many people changing a cork, if they knew how --- would be a major
production. For others it is very simple & outside of the time it may take
for their adhesive of choice to dry, they can install a cork in a minute or
2.

I'll end my input by suggesting that if someone is reading this now & has to
ask HOW, that they should not attempt this on their own until they can
observe the use of teflon tape firsthand. Better safe, than sorry.

I've never seen or heard of a clarinet cracking because of the use of Teflon
tape.

Someone's note on the proper use....over existing cork....is important. The
tape goes over the existing cork. The cork's compression is critical for the
tape to work at all.

I've had Teflon tape on many of the joints of the many clarinets I
own....for years without issue. Now and then, I replace a cork...when/if I
have time. :-)
