Here's another vote for the Meyer 5M. I switch to this from a Selmer
Soloist C* for dance band and pit work when I need more volume. Not
the same sound, but very nice.
Or how about just a more open Selmer - D or E? You didn't say whether
you play a Soloist, but it might also be worth trying their
(relatively) new Super Session range. Perhaps they retain some of the
Selmer family sound, but should be designed to give more.
I'd like to spend some time with the SR Tech Legends, but I suspect
even at US prices (we pay a lot more in the UK) they are well outside
your price range.
