Another solution that might be possible is to pencil in the first few
notes from the next page (or some kind of mnemonic to help you
remember them) at the bottom of the page on the original copy to allow
you to postpone the page turn (or you could do something similar at
the top of the next page in order to make the page turn in advance).
While you're technically "copying" material, because you aren't making
a new physical copy, no one should care (not even the rental people, I
imagine, as long as they're not too persnickety about making pencil
marks in general).
