Curtis,

When my quintet read the Hovhaness, we found it to be typical of his style. If you like his music, you'll like it. We also slogged through the Schoenberg. I remember that it was not really atonal, but it came close. It was very thick late-Viennese School with lots of dissonance. Think Reger with twice the dissonance. It was also VERY long. We decided that it was longer than it was worth.
