Whenever I've used Teflon tape, I haven't complicated things. I don't tie
it on, or tie it off. Simply make sure the cork is clean, hold one end of
tape on the joint, and under slight tension wrap the tape. It stretches as
you go, and this is good thing. Wrap it a few times, stretch it as you tear
it off, and rub your fingers around the joint with a bit of pressure. Try
the joint; if it fits well, you're done, otherwise go again. Because the
tape is what it is (technical talk!) it melds the layers into each other
under pressure, so more rather than less is rarely a problem.
Keep it simple.
Geoff.
