Subj: [kl] Product Review - John Pierce MP

I posted a while back that I had need for a loud mouthpiece, to be heard in
a big band that doesn't use sound reinforcement and other similar gigs.

Found it! The John Pierce "jazz" mouthpiece is working pretty darn OK for
me. It has an odd, duckbill shape (much like a rubber alto mouthpiece),
which raises the baffle quite a bit. I can use the same reeds on it that I
do on my traditional/concert mouthpieces, with much the same response, only
with a *lot* more pop to the sound. The chalumeau is a bit buzzy, but in a
way that fits in well with the New Orleans tradition.

You wouldn't want to play Brahms on this thing - but it works really well
for me for the intended use.

Does anyone know who John Pierce is/was? I wasn't able to find much via
Google.
