While I can see the use of Teflon & similar tapes or tenon filling materials
like floss, I am sitting here and thinking about a Bell dropping and hitting
the floor on someone using the tape as described. Of course, the same thing
could happen with a loose connection using cork. However, I have never seen
that happen in thousands of clarinets. Cork has some degree of outward
pressure which it exerts from inside the connection. Does teflon tape exert
the same outward pressure? BTW: I don't think this same problem would be
experienced in the same manner on the 2 upper connections as the mouth &
hands help keep things in place.
