Hello Monna . . . I purchased a reed wizard about a year ago and have found
it real helpful for very quickly balancing the side rails of reeds to a
symmetrical condition. Since about 70 percent or more of reed problems and
imbalance occur in the tip or ears area of the reed, additional treatment is
often required there in addition to what the reed wizard may accomplish. I
am also an advocate of W.Thomas Ridenour's ATG (against the grain) methods
of reed treatments and balancing as outlined in his text "The Definitive
Guide to Successful Reed Finishing". This is available either through WW&BW
or from Ridenour's web site that you can reach by
http://www.ridenourclarinetproducts.com/index.html . You can indeed salvage
a goodly number of poorly playing and a few unplayable reeds out of the box
by learning to gently tweek them into balance. But some are hopeless from
the get-go out of the box so it's best not to get your hopes up about making
every reed you buy function properly. Good luck. gene0

Subject: [kl] Reed Wizzard

Hi Everyone,
I just bought a reed wizzard and wanted to know if any has an opinion about
this product. If they like it or is it a waste of money. I have played
clarinet in school and now am picking it back up after many years. As a kid
I never did anything but take the reeds out and play them. I enjoy reading
the post and find them very helpful.
Monna
