That's not really so hard to figure out, is it? Copyright is an
extremely complex area of law -- one which deserves serious treatment --
and one in which there is a VAST amount of dangerous folkloric knowledge
(that is, "everybody knows that..." or "my friend told me that..."),
virtually all of which is utterly and completely wrong. Kevin presented
factual information, based on real experience within his field of
expertise, and you dismissed it with:

This is the Fermat style of proof: "I've discovered a wonderful proof of
this, but the margin is too small to contain it."

I disagree. This was not a debate over opinions on a matter of
philosophy. This was a presentation of fact -- correcting the popular
misunderstanding. It is unfortunate that you have now abandoned your
argument, once having been presented with Kevin's credentials.
