Klarinet Archive - Posting 000356.txt from 2009/01

From: Gary Van Cott <gary@-----.com>
Subj: [kl] Sonata in D Major, opus 94 by Sergei Prokofiev
Date: Sat, 24 Jan 2009 18:41:46 -0500

Jonathan Cohler wrote that he is playing the title piece. I presume in
the arrangement by Kent Kennan. It was originally for flute (or violin).

Ludwig published this piece. When they were taken over (bought ?) by
Masters Music (Kalmus), it was briefly available and then was not. When
I asked I was told it was because of copyright issues. It is not clear
to me who hold the copyright to the original version this piece in the
US. It may be G. Schirmer. There is also an edition from International
(apparently they are a bit behind on the copyright issues.)

Has anyone else looked into this recently?
