I had meant instances where the sound and picture on a single TV are out of
sync (lips are ahead of the voice). But you bring up a whole other problem -
different receiving devices being out of sync with each other, I assume
because of the differences in the electronics in each device. My non-digital
TVs operating with a Standard Definition Set Top Box are not in sync with
the HDTV (with an HD STB) in our living room, so when we have the same
program on in the living room and some other nearby (within earshot) room,
the sound is separated enough to drive everyone a little nuts. And TV sound
coming through an FM radio with a TV band is even farther off. Worst of all
is my computer TV card, which is a couple of seconds different (I forget
which way without turning everything on to check) from any of the actual TVs
within earshot when I'm working on the computer with the TV displaying in
part of my monitor. Couldn't there be some latency standard that could clean
all of this up and get the sound and pictures to be simultaneous on all of
the devices that provide TV reception?

Weve had the sync problem for at least 5 years now, since we use Dish
satellite TV, and the TV in the bedroom is 2 seconds behind the TV in the
living room and they are only 10 feet apart, on the same satellite receiver.

It is particularly noticeable in the winter.

I noticed some sync problems during the NBC coverage that I watched for most
of the day. Is there a not-too-technical explanation for these audio-video
sync problems? Is it more of a problem when telecasting from a remote
location than from a studio? Does it originate in the onsite equipment at
the remote location or does something in the way it's all processed
introduce a lag in one component or the other?

Seems I've been noticing more of these problems as more stations have gone
digital. Or am I imagining it?
