Hi Kevin,

I'm in the Yamaha camp. I have a student model, and it's quite good.

Not that you asked, but a few hints for embouchure: loose lips, laser beam
air, and frown.

Subject: [kl] Good Cheap Flute?

I've decided that I need to take the plunge and round out my doubling - just
too many pit gigs that I have to turn down because I don't play flute.

One can spend $10K plus on a flute - I'll never be worth it, leave that to
the frau. I don't need a Powell etc.

Can anyone recommend a decent/passable instrument for the doubler? There
are so many funky brands at the Woodwind etc. that it's hard to know what's
good and what's junk.

I'm leaning towards Yamaha on brand loyalty alone - everything I've ever
purchased from them, from motorcycles, stereos and outboard motors to the
clarinets that I use in my orchestra have been top-notch. With the Yen so
hing, most are spendy though. Thoughts?
