<<<Last July I cut off a tiny part of the tip of my L middle finger in a
gardening accident. Though it has healed well, I guess a lot of nerve
endings are still traumatized and are near the surface, so it's difficult to
play clarinet because it gets so sore when I need to press down on it.

Has anyone had this injury and/or can anyone suggest any cream that might
help it heal faster? The alternative is to bandage that part of the finger
when I want to play, but that poses its own problems.>>>

Well, this is yet another purpose for the beer! ;-)

Seriously - I worked my way through school as a restaurant cook. As [my]
luck would have it, I managed to cut the top joint of my left index finger
to the bone a week before a Big Concert. Playing wasn't too bad - the doc
used something like superglue to hold the finger together - but it hurt like
hell.

It took a while not to be tender, but ended up being as insensitive as the
rest of my fingers.

Best of luck!

PS - this is the Clarinet Goddess' way of telling you not to garden any
more. (It wastes time when you should be practicing!)
