Teachers stress this with children because children tend to slouch when
they're allowed to lean back, especially since many kids' legs aren't long
enough to reach the floor if they sit back too far. The issue is whether
you're slouching or not. Slouching can put pressure on the abdomen that
limits breath volume and it can cause contortions of your arm and hand
positions so that your fingers can't work efficiently. Too many professional
players sit against the backs of their chairs to say that there is any
advantage for someone who is fully grown to sitting on the edge.

my teacher really stressed this.

I can tell you as a adult I have had 3 back surgeries need another one, but
I am fine with it.

as I said, I am not expert, so what ever works, that is great.
